Council's Mapping System: We have moved from Intramaps to our new Geographical Information System (GIS) AlpineMaps (Esri). Access to the old GIS system Intramaps will be turned off in January 2025 and the data stored within Intramaps will not been maintained.

Tourism websites

Council manages several tourism websites that help promote local businesses throughout the Shire. These websites showcase a variety of services, attractions, and events to both residents and visitors. 

If your business is listed on the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW), it will automatically be featured on these platforms, expanding your reach across key tourism networks. 

We encourage all eligible businesses to register with ATDW to take full advantage of these promotional opportunities.

Creating a listing on ATDW offers numerous benefits for your business. Not only will it enhance your online presence, but your business will be featured on key tourism websites including:

An ATDW listing helps boost the search engine optimisation (SEO) of your website, driving more traffic and increasing your visibility to potential customers.

With an ATDW listing, you have full control over your profile, which you can update as often as necessary. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to host media groups through Tourism North East's public relations program, giving your business further exposure.

Displaying brochures in Visitor Information Centres

Council operates three accredited Visitor Information Centres (VICs) in each of the key townships of Bright, Myrtleford and Mount Beauty. They service approximately 134,000 walk in visitors annually across the three VICs.

 Our professional staff and ambassadors are committed to providing resourceful and impartial information to help promote your individual business and the Bright & Surrounds brand. 

You're encouraged to enhance your marketing exposure by displaying your DL size business brochure in our VICs free of charge.

To display your brochures in our VICs, all you need to do it:

  • Fill out your business information here: Brochure Display Conditions
  • Sign (or initial) to say that you have read, understand, and agree to the brochure display criteria
  • Take your brochures into the VIC.

Please note, space is limited in some centres and preferences will be given to businesses residing in that town.

Regional brochures

Council and regional tourism body Tourism North East, create several brochures to help promote the region, including:

  • Township maps – Bright & Surrounds, Myrtleford & Surrounds and Mount Beauty & Surrounds.
  • Walks and Trails
  • Cycle and Trails
  • Bright & Surrounds Official Visitor Guide
  • Ride High Country Cycle Guide
  • Feast High Country Guide

Operators are welcome to use these marketing tools to help visitors make the most of their stay. 

You can order brochures by emailing tourism@alpineshire.vic.gov.au with a list of the brochures required.

You will be contacted when they are ready to pick up from the Council office.

Tourism statistics

Further assisting you to understand the role tourism plays in the Alpine Shire and the High Country, the Economic Development team have produced a local tourism fact sheet. 

Starting in 2016 our fact sheets now extend to 2023 aiding to tell our Alpine story.
