Council's Mapping System: We have moved from Intramaps to our new Geographical Information System (GIS) AlpineMaps (Esri). Access to the old GIS system Intramaps will be turned off in January 2025 and the data stored within Intramaps will not been maintained.

Public Place Bins

Council provides bins for waste and recycling to residents and visitors in public areas, such as retail hubs and rural picnic areas.

The bins are not provided for residents to use for their household rubbish. Each bin is emptied regularly, based on its location and time of year.

Public waste and recycling bins

We are proudly working with SSX Group Pty Ltd to deliver cleaning services across the region. SSX Group maintain a thorough schedule, ensuring that all of our bins are emptied regularly across the Alpine Shire.

Our public bins are emptied over 800 times per week, with waste and recycling bins in the main streets of Bright, Mount Beauty, Myrtleford and Tawonga South emptied daily.

During peak times, like the summer and Easter school holidays, this number increases by an additional 386 services a week to accommodate the higher demand.

All of our public bins across the Alpine Shire have signage to encourage reporting of cleaning and waste issues. This signage contains a QR code, where community members and holidaymakers can report issues directly to SSX Group. Once received, a member of their team will address the issue as soon as possible.

Cigarette butts

Most of our public bins have a component specifically for cigarette butts. There are several cigarette butt bins across the Alpine Shire for easy disposal.

Dog tidy units

We provide dog tidy units at common dog walking areas throughout the Alpine Shire. These units provide dog walkers with dog waste bags and a place to leave full bags.

We ask community members and holiday makers to use these units for dog waste only.
