From time to time, road works, projects, and events require the partial or complete closure of roads within the Alpine Shire.

Buffalo Stampede
28th - 30th March 2025
Road Closures and Changed Traffic Conditions
Participants will be using the following roads between Bright and Mount Buffalo, incorporating the local trail network/bushland during the event. All roads will remain OPEN for use by cars and bikes during the event, however, please give the runners extra care and space during the event times.

Road Closures:
Saturday 12 April Coronation Ave will have the lane closest to Pioneer Park closed from 9:00am – 12:00pm. Entry access for residents via Churchill Ave
Saturday 12 April Back Germantown Rd will be closed East of Mt Porepunkah Rd to the gravel from 1:30pm – 4:30pm. Access for residents from Tawonga Gap Rd
Sunday 13 April Mt Buffalo Rd (uphill) will be closed from the ticket gate to the Chalet from 7:30am – 10:30am.
Access to Your Property:
We are committed to ensuring that you continue to have access to your property throughout the event. However, there may be temporary road closures or changes to traffic flow around the various courses during the event that may cause delays.
Easter Mega Market
Saturday 19 April 7am to 4pm
Howitt Park, Bright
Road Closures & Detours
- Soundshell and Riverdeck car parks at Howitt Park closed
- No entry into Howitt Lane from Great Alpine Rd
- Riverside Ave resident access / accessible drop off zone access only
There will be no public parking available at Howitt Park. A drop off zone for those with mobility issues will be available near the soundshell car park entrance, enter via Riverside Ave.
Traffic marshals will be in place. Plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
Anzac Day 2025
The following roads will be closed for short periods of time to allow the safe staging of the Anzac Day Services across the shire.
Friday 25 April 2025
BRIGHT
5.45am to approximately 6.45am
- Ireland St closed at Barnard St/ Camp St intersection
- Ireland St closed at the Cobden St roundabout
- Burke St closed at the roundabout (clock tower)
- Anderson St closed at Wood St intersection.
10.00am to approximately 12.00pm
- Ireland St closed at Mafeking Square roundabout
- Ireland St closed at the Cobden St roundabout
- Bourke St closed at the entry to the roundabout
- Anderson St closed at Wood St intersection
10.30am to approximately 11.00am
- Bakers Gully Rd closed between Park St and Cobden St to allow for the commencement of the march
Note: The V/Line bus stop in Anderson St will be moved to Apex Park on Gavan St (opposite Woolworths) for the duration of the closure.
MYRTLEFORD
10.00am to approximately 12noon
- Clyde St closed between Queen St and Great Alpine Road
10.30am to approximately 12noon
- Great Alpine Road closed between Standish St and Albert St / Lewis Ave
- Clyde St closed between Standish St and Queen St
- Smith St will be closed for a short period between the Myrtleford RSL Hall and Standish St for the march
A detour will be in place for all vehicles, please follow the signs
Note: The V/Line bus stops on Great Alpine Road will be temporarily moved to the corner of Albert and Elgin Sts, in front of the Old School Museum, for the duration of the closure.
MOUNT BEAUTY
10.30am to approximately 11.45am
- Lakeside Ave closed between Kiewa Valley Highway and Kiewa Cres.
A detour will be in place for all vehicles, please follow the signs.
- Park St will be closed for a short period between Kiewa and Tawonga Cres for the march
*Note that this will also close Hollonds St to through traffic. Any cars parked in Hollonds St will be able to exit via Park Street after the march.
Myrtleford roadworks and Transfer Station closure
Asphalt and resealing works will begin in the Myrtleford area on Tuesday, 11 March, with works scheduled to take place over a two-week period.
These essential works will improve road conditions and safety for the community. Traffic management will be in place, and some minor delays should be expected. Affected residents and businesses will receive advance notification.
Two of our facilities will be impacted during these works.
The Myrtleford Transfer Station will be closed from 12 midday on Tuesday, 11 March, reopening with normal operating hours on Thursday, 13 March.
The Myrtleford Library carpark works will take place on Wednesday, 12 March, and Thursday, 13 March. Disruptions will be minimal, but there will be some noise and machinery on-site for short periods over both days.
For those visiting the Library, alternate parking and pedestrian access will be provided while the carpark is being resurfaced.
Bright Make it Bake it Grow it Monthly Market
6am – 1.30pm every 3rd Saturday of the month.
The Howitt Park Soundshell car park will be closed to allow for the safe staging of the monthly market.
Dargo High Plains Road
The Dargo High Plains Road has now reopened for the summer season and will remain open until May/June 2025, weather depending.
