The Log Wagon in Harrietville is once again proudly on display with the completion of its new protective shed.
The Log Wagon is a historic icon of Harrietville, generously donated to the Harrietville Historical Society and paying homage to the industry that shaped the town to become what it is today.
The wheels of the Wagon were made by hand and are likely the only existing wheels of their kind in Victoria, if not Australia.
Earlier this year, the logs sitting atop the Wagon were found to be rotted, so passionate volunteers worked together to replace them.
This involved ensuring that the original Wagon could withstand the weight of the new logs to preserve the integrity of the original design.
The construction of the new shed came about after a tree fell onto the Wagon.
Working together with Alpine Building and Construction and the Harrietville Historical Society, Alpine Shire Council is proud to reveal a shed that will continue to protect the Log Wagon for years to come.
Council thanks the Harrietville Historical Society for supplying the historical information about the Harrietville Log Wagon.
