The Community Local Law covers a wide range of regulations designed to maintain public amenity, health, and safety.
Lighting fires
During the declared fire danger period, there are additional requirements concerning vegetation and flammable materials on properties.
Restrictions apply to fires in the open air or in incinerators within residential areas. Fires are only allowed between 10am and 3pm, and only dry tree limbs and prunings may be burned. Burning leaves, lawn clippings, nut casings, or similar materials is prohibited.
Barbeques and other fires for heating or cooking purposes are permitted, but no fires can be lit on total fire ban days. Additionally, fires should not be used to dispose of paper, cardboard, or other recyclable or offensive materials.
For further restrictions, refer to Clause 3.2 of the Community Local Law.
Recreational vehicles
The use of recreational vehicles, which includes any motor-powered vehicle designed for sport or recreation, is not allowed on Council land or in residential areas.
Snowmobiles, however, may be driven on roads if they are properly registered and used in accordance with VicRoads requirements.
A permit is required for their use on Council land outside the road reserve.
Camping
Camping is not allowed on Council land, but there are designated camping areas within the Shire.
If you plan to camp on private land for more than 28 days within a 12-month period, you may need a planning permit.
Camping in exchange for money on private land is prohibited unless all relevant planning and registration requirements have been met.
Animals
Regulations also apply to the keeping of animals in residential areas, with limits on the number of animals allowed without a permit.
The owner or person responsible for an animal must make sure it doesn’t wander away from where it’s usually kept and that the property is properly fenced to prevent the animal from escaping.
They must also clean up any waste the animal leaves on Council land or someone else’s property, and dispose of it in a way that doesn’t cause a nuisance, harm others, or damage the environment.
