In January 2024, a contractor engaged by Council will be conducting bin inspections at randomly selected properties across the Alpine Shire.
The inspections will include general waste, recycling and FOGO bins presented for collection at residential, holiday accommodation and short-term rentals.
The results will assist our team in understanding and improving bin configurations and education programs to maximise recycling efforts and reduce waste directed to landfill. The inspections of randomly selected households will include:
- A visual inspection of the bin contents via lifting the bin lid and inspecting the contents for:
- Volume (how full)
- Incorrect items
- Hazardous items
- Inspecting the exterior condition of each bin for damage and graffiti.
For the selected properties, the inspection will take place from the kerbside on the evening before the normal bin collection day.
No action is required from residents or property owners. To avoid impacting residents’ waste and recycling sorting and disposal behaviours, households will not be notified if they are to be assessed.
Conditions of the project prohibit reporting of any specific details related to any individual household or personal information.
The information collected is analysed and reported in an aggregated form, so there is no risk of personal household information being captured or shared.
If you have any concerns regarding the inspections, please contact Council 5755 0555 or e-mail info@alpineshire.vic.gov.au.
