With the bushfire season fast approaching, now is the perfect time to clean up your garden and prepare your property.
To support residents in their efforts, Alpine Shire Council is offering free green waste disposal at the Mount Beauty, Myrtleford, and Porepunkah Transfer Stations on Saturday, 7 and Sunday, 8 December 2024.
Myrtleford Transfer Station will be open from 10am until 3pm both Saturday and Sunday, while Mount Beauty and Porepunkah Transfer Stations will be open from 10am until 2pm both Saturday and Sunday.
This initiative builds on the success of previous free green waste disposal days, giving community members a convenient and cost-effective way to clear out garden waste.
Maximum two cubic metres per customer per day. Green waste must be clean, free of wire, netting, and other contaminants, with branches no larger than 200mm in diameter. No stumps will be accepted.
Council's Chief Executive Officer, Will Jeremy, encouraged residents to take advantage of this opportunity to protect their properties and reduce the risk of bushfires.
“Preparing for the bushfire season is vital for our community’s safety,” Mr Jeremy said.
“Free green waste disposal days are a fantastic way to encourage everyone to clean up their gardens, remove flammable materials, and ensure their properties are ready.
"We hope residents make the most of this initiative.”
High volumes of traffic are expected during these free disposal days, so visitors may experience queues and delays. Council staff will be on-site to manage the flow of vehicles and assist community members.
“We ask for everyone’s patience during busy times and encourage people to plan their visits early in the day if possible,” Mr Jeremy said.
This is your chance to tidy up, reduce hazards, and do your part to keep our region safe.
