Council's Mapping System: We have moved from Intramaps to our new Geographical Information System (GIS) AlpineMaps (Esri). Access to the old GIS system Intramaps will be turned off in January 2025 and the data stored within Intramaps will not been maintained.

Official opening for East Ovens Pedestrian Bridge

The new East Ovens Pedestrian Bridge in Harrietville is set to become an asset for walkers and hikers with construction reaching the final stage. 

To celebrate this milestone, an official opening event is planned for Friday, 1 March. 

Interested community members are invited to join Alpine Shire Council to officially open the new bridge. 

Alpine Shire Mayor, John Forsyth said the East Ovens Pedestrian Bridge highlights Council's commitment to creating safe and accessible spaces for the community.  

"Enhancing community connectivity is a key motivator for a range of Council projects, and has been clearly demonstrated in the construction of the East Ovens Bridge," he said.  

"The bridge will serve as a vital link in the area, connecting residents and visitors to a network of unique bush trails. 

"We invite everyone interested to join Council at the opening event and experience firsthand the positive impact this infrastructure will have on residents and visitors of Harrietville and surrounds." 

Event details are as follows: 

When: Friday, 1 March from 3.00pm  

Where: East Ovens Pedestrian Bridge located at the end of Bon Accord Track, Harrietville 

Parking: Parking is limited on Bon Accord Track to the highlighted location on the map or alternatively, the Great Alpine Road. Attendees will need to park and walk approximately 1km. Please ensure you wear appropriate footwear.

The East Ovens Pedestrian Bridge project was made possible through joint funding from Emergency Recovery Victoria and Council. 

 Council also worked closely with the land manager, Parks Victoria, throughout the project.
