Residents of Porepunkah are encouraged to have their say on the preparation of Alpine Shire Council's Porepunkah Drainage Strategy Update.
The Drainage Strategy Update is the next step in the process of reviewing and improving the management of flooding and stormwater drainage risks in Porepunkah.
A final strategy will build upon the Draft Porepunkah Drainage Strategy, which was prepared in 2022 to manage existing challenges with stormwater drainage and flooding in the township.
Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr Sarah Nicholas, said that recent updates to the Australian Runoff and Rainfall data, published and supported by the Australian Government in 2024, have necessitated an update to the existing draft strategy ahead of its finalisation.
"The Drainage Strategy Update will work to ensure that the existing stormwater drainage network is appropriately designed to support current and any proposed future growth in Porepunkah," she said.
"We encourage all residents to have their say, including those who contributed back in 2022, so that we can confirm the data is correct or make changes as necessary."
The Drainage Strategy Update will also address climate change impacts, ensuring this important issue is considered in future community infrastructure needs.
Together with engineering and environmental consultancy Engeny Australia Pty Ltd, Council invites residents of Porepunkah to contribute to a final Porepunkah Drainage Strategy Update by filling out an online survey or coming along to one of two in-person drop-in sessions in March.
Contributions will be used to understand whether the data collected for the Draft Porepunkah Drainage Strategy in 2022 is still current or whether changes need to be made.
Both drop-in sessions will be held in the open space on Nicholson Street, opposite the Porepunkah Pub, at the following times:
- Friday, 21 March | 3pm to 6pm
- Saturday, 22 March | 9am to 12pm

The online survey will close at 11.59pm on Sunday, 23 March 2025.
