The Alpine Shire is set to become even more vibrant with the installation of two striking new artworks along the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail as part of the M2M Enhancements Project.
These pieces will bring art, culture, and storytelling to the much-loved trail, enriching the experience for locals and visitors alike.
Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr Sarah Nicholas, said the upcoming installations would be a fantastic addition to the region.
"We are incredibly excited to see these artworks take shape," she said.
"Public art has the power to inspire, educate, and connect people, and these pieces will enhance our beautiful rail trail, encouraging more people to get out and experience it."
The two artworks include:
True Horizons – Eurobin Station
Created by artist Kent Morris, True Horizons is a First Nations-led artwork that invites visitors to reflect on the landscape and the history of the region. Inspired by the Bogong Moth and the cultural significance of this area, the installation will provide a space for contemplation and connection to Country.
The Colour Bridge – Between Bright and Porepunkah
Melbourne-based collective Skunk Control is transforming the Roberts Creek bridge into an interactive, light-filled experience. The Colour Bridge will use colour, light, and movement to create a dynamic installation that will change with the environment, adding a unique and engaging element to the trail.
The artworks are part of the M2M Enhancements Project, supported by the Victorian State Government’s $8.5 million funding initiative.
The project aims to elevate the rail trail as a key tourism attraction, supporting local businesses and increasing visitation to the region.
“These installations will not only add to the visual appeal of the rail trail but also encourage people to pause, appreciate their surroundings, and engage with art in a unique way," Cr Nicholas said.
"We can’t wait to see them come to life."
The artworks will be installed in the coming months.
