Update

Cr Simon Kelley was elected to the position of Deputy Mayor, taking over from Cr Tony Keeble.

Cr Forsyth also served as Mayor in 2021 and 2023, and is serving his third term on Council, bringing a wealth of experience to the position.

At the meeting, Cr Forsyth said any one of the seven Alpine Shire Councillors would be a fantastic candidate for the job of Mayor.

"Looking around the group here, Alpine Shire is very fortunate in that the last three terms, we've always as a collegiate group of Councillors and it's my belief that any of them could have been Mayor," he said.

"I really appreciate the working relationship that we have within Council, and I look forward to working together again in the coming year."

Cr Forsyth reflected on the past 12 months and said it had been another busy year for the Council with plenty of challenges and opportunities.

"From heavy rainfall causing our share of damage to our roads and infrastructure, along with the Bogong High Plains Road landslip cutting off access between Mount Beauty and Falls Creek. Concerted, positive steps ensured that road access reopened in time for 2023 snow season," he said.

"As a Council, we also had an increased focus on community engagement, and it was pleasing to see both staff and Councillors in attendance at a series of pop-ups at key community events and markets, where we could hear directly from the community on a series of issues.

"We're continuing to focus on community engagement and have been present at markets in Bright, Myrtleford and Mount Beauty over the past three weekends, and I look forward to getting out and about again early next year."

Cr Forsyth thanked Cr Keeble for his support during his time as Deputy Mayor, and congratulated Cr Kelley for stepping up into the role for the next 12 months.

Former Deputy Mayor, Cr Keeble, reverts to his general Councillor role.
