Alpine Shire Council is currently seeking feedback on the draft Sealing of Unsealed Roads Policy, developed to establish a clear and equitable approach to prioritising road sealing projects within the municipality.
The draft policy outlines a three-step process for assessing road sealing requests based on traffic volumes, road usage, and strategic importance.
If a road meets the minimum criteria of the Policy it is then prioritised in Council's Road Upgrade Program and further assessed against access to public facilities, tourism value, and alignment with Council's strategic objectives.
Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr Sarah Nicholas, stated that the Policy will play a crucial role in ensuring our road infrastructure aligns with the demands of our growing community.
"By using clear criteria to prioritise road sealing projects, we can make well-informed decisions that effectively address the community's needs," she said.
"We are committed to transparency and equity in our decision-making processes, and this policy provides a framework that ensures all road sealing requests are assessed fairly and consistently.
"We encourage all community members to review the draft policy and provide their feedback."
The consultation period will be open for 28 days, with submissions closing at 5pm on Wednesday, 23 April 2025.
Community members can submit their feedback through Engage Alpine, or by posting their feedback to Alpine Shire Council, PO Box 139, Bright, VIC, 3741.
