Council rates can once again be paid at Australia Post branches.
Council’s previous arrangement with Macquarie Bank to facilitate the payment of Council rates in cash at Australia Post was terminated by the bank in April 2022.
Staff have since been working to find another financial institution to carry on the service, securing an alternative late last year.
Australia Post’s Post BillPay service is now available for payment of rates and fees.
Alpine Shire Mayor John Forsyth said community members who prefer to pay with cash, EFTPOS or cheque can again visit their local Australia Post outlet to pay their rates.
“It’s important to provide a range of ways for community members to make payments to Council, recognising that not everyone is comfortable with online methods,” he said.
“We’re pleased to offer payments once again at Australia Post outlets, which means ratepayers can choose to make a cash payment when they pay their other bills, pick up their post or send a parcel.
“Australia Post outlets provide an important hub for connection and services for many in our community, and it’s important to us to remove barriers for our customers and focus on accessibility and flexibility.
“You can also pay your rates in cash at any of our three Customer Service locations, where our friendly staff are happy to help.”
Council’s Customer Service desks are located at Mount Beauty Library, Myrtleford Library and Bright Council Offices.
