Council adopted the Sport and Active Recreation Master Plans for Pioneer Park in Bright, Mount Beauty Sports and Education Precinct and the town centre of Myrtleford at this week's Ordinary Council Meeting.

The master plans were completed over two years in consultation with specialised sports and active recreation consultants and community members across the Alpine Shire. This involved input from 62 formal user groups, including sports clubs, community associations and committees of management, and a survey to capture responses from the wider community.

Feedback from the user groups and the survey informed the final draft, which was available for public exhibition earlier this year.

Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr John Forsyth, said that the master plans recognise the importance of sport and active recreation in promoting health and wellbeing within Alpine Shire communities.

"We thank the 62 user groups and 393 survey respondents who contributed to the development of the Sport and Active Recreation Master Plans," he said.

"With your support, we now have strategic direction for our region to work towards and maintain vibrant, inclusive and accessible sport and active recreation facilities."

The need for the master plans was identified through the Sport and Active Recreation Plan, which also identified a need for an aquatics and indoor sport feasibility study.

The master plans will be integral to seeking appropriate funding opportunities to complete projects in collaboration with key stakeholders, subject to permissions of landowners.
