Community groups, clubs, Traditional Owners and young people are encouraged to apply for funding to support their next project.
This year’s community grants programs will see an injection of funds from Commonwealth and State governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements in response to the Black Summer Bushfires for revitalising our environments.
The objectives of this additional funding stream are to:
-
Enhance the natural environment by removing invasive species, such as weeds and willows;
-
Replant flora species native to the Alpine region;
-
Educate and inform people through environmental signage relevant to flora and fauna species native to the Alpine region; and,
-
Create or enhance community garden spaces to educate and inform people about fire-resilient native flora.
Mayor John Forsyth said in 2022/2023 Council awarded over $71,000 to community groups and clubs to support 21 important projects, with a total value of $220,000.
“We strongly urge our local groups and young people to share their ideas and apply," he said.
“This program funds community projects that support diversity, inclusion and community participation, and contributes to the building of healthy, strong, resilient, and connected communities.”
The Community Grants Program will again be hosted by the SmartyGrants online grant management system. The SmartyGrants system is user-friendly for applicants and allows efficient management of the grants process for Council.
For information about the Community Grants program, or the eligibility of your project, contact Council on 03 5755 0555 or info@alpineshire.vic.gov.au.
Applications close at 11.59pm on Sunday, 25 June 2023.
