Road Closures & Changes

From time to time, road works, projects, and events require the partial or complete closure of roads within Alpine Shire.

Planned roadworks in Porepunkah and Bright

Road improvement works will be carried out at various times and locations across Porepunkah and Bright between October 2025 and March 2026.

What to expect

The works will include:

  • Road stabilisation and patching
  • Resealing
  • Road upgrades
  • Asphalting

While exact dates may vary due to weather conditions, every effort will be made to avoid peak traffic periods, including major events such as the Bright Rod Run and the Christmas holidays.

Notifications

Affected residents, business owners, and holiday accommodation providers will be notified closer to the commencement of works via:

  • Direct letters
  • Social media updates
  • Local newspaper notices

Bright Make it Bake it Grow it Monthly Market

6am 1.30pm every 3rd Saturday of the month

The Howitt Park Soundshell car park will be closed to allow for the safe staging of the monthly market.

Bright Rotary Easter Market

7am – 4pm, Saturday 4th April

  • Both the Soundshell and Riverdeck car parks in Howitt Park will be closed 
  • Howitt Lane closed between Great Alpine Rd and Howitt Park
  • Riverside Ave open to local traffic only 

Alpe de Buffalo

To keep everyone safe during the upcoming Alpe De Buffalo junior cycling event, there will be changed traffic conditions on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 April 2026. 

Road Closures & Detours 

  • Saturday 11 April 9am to 12pm Coronation Ave single lane closure (lane closest to Pioneer Park) between main entry gate of Pioneer Park and Mystic Ln. Resident entry via Churchill Ave 
  • Saturday 11 April 1:30pm to 4:30pm Back Germantown Rd closed east of Mount Porepunkah Rd to the gravel. Resident access from Tawonga Gap Rd 
  • Sunday 12 April 7:30am to 10:30am Mount Buffalo Rd (uphill lane) will be closed from the ticket gate to the Chalet. 

Only local traffic and authorised vehicles will be permitted in closed roads. Traffic marshals will be in place. Plan ahead and allow extra travel time.  

Wandi Nut Festival

The following traffic management will be in place to ensure the safe staging of the event:

Friday 17 April 2025, 7.00am to 9.00pm

  • White Star Rd will be closed between Centenary Ave and Alpine Park. Local traffic excepted.
  • Speed reductions in place on Centenary Ave and Smithy Lane.

Saturday 18 April 2025, 7.00am to 5.00pm

  • White Star Rd will be closed between Centenary Ave and Alpine Park. Local traffic excepted.
  • Speed reductions in place on Centenary Ave and Smithy Lane.

Traffic controller will be in place.

Access will be limited to local residents, businesses and their customers only, this includes access to 5 Acres restaurant. 

Public parking is available on Centenary Ave, please do not park on the side of road.

Anzac Day 2026

The following roads will be closed for short periods of time to allow the safe staging of the Anzac Day Services across the shire.  

Saturday 25 April 2026 

BRIGHT 

5.45am to approximately 6.45am 

  • Ireland St closed at Barnard St/ Camp St intersection 
  • Ireland St closed at the Cobden St roundabout 
  • Burke St closed at the roundabout (clock tower) 
  • Anderson St closed at Wood St intersection. 

10.00am to approximately 12.30pm  

  • Ireland St closed at Mafeking Square roundabout 
  • Ireland St closed at the Cobden St roundabout 
  • Bourke St closed at the entry to the roundabout 
  • Anderson St closed at Wood St intersection 

10.30am to approximately 11.00am  

  • Bakers Gully Rd closed between Park St and Cobden St to allow for the commencement of the march 

Note: The V/Line bus stop in Anderson St will be moved to Apex Park on Gavan St (opposite Woolworths) for the duration of the closure.  

MYRTLEFORD 

10.00am to approximately 12.30pm 

  • Clyde St closed between Queen St and Great Alpine Road 

10.30am to approximately 12.30pm 

  • Great Alpine Road closed between Standish St and Albert St / Lewis Ave 
  • Clyde St closed between Standish St and Queen St  
  • Smith St will be closed for a short period between the Myrtleford RSL Hall and Standish St for the march 

A detour will be in place for all vehicles, please follow the signs 

Note: The V/Line bus stops on Great Alpine Road will be temporarily moved to the corner of Albert and Elgin Sts, in front of the Old School Museum, for the duration of the closure.  

MOUNT BEAUTY 

10.30am to approximately 12pm 

  • Lakeside Ave closed between Kiewa Valley Highway and Kiewa Cres.  

A detour will be in place for all vehicles, please follow the signs. 

  • Park St will be closed for a short period between Kiewa and Tawonga Cres for the march 

*Note that this will also close Hollonds St to through traffic. Any cars parked in Hollonds St will be able to exit via Park Street after the march. 

La Fiera

Saturday 16th May 2026 from 6am to approximately 8pm

  • Great Alpine Road (Myrtle Street) closed between Standish and Clyde st intersections
  • Clyde st closed between Standish and Queen st intersections (single lane only)

Please follow detours and allow for delays

  • Please note a temporary V/line bus stop will be located at the corner of Albert and Elgin streets during this closure

La Fiera II Mercato Sunday Market

Sunday 17th May 2026 from 6am to approximately 3.30pm

Clyde st closed between Standish and Queen st intersections (single lane only)
