$1.87million for Alpine Events Centre in Bright
The Alpine Events Centre which was allocated $1.87million in Tuesday’s federal budget under the National Stronger Regions Fund will create about 70 new jobs and $16.5million in direct expenditure in the Alpine Shire and the region once it is up and running.
Alpine's local law limits burning-off
While fire restrictions have been lifted, Alpine Shire Council recommends people living in residential areas consider the environment and their neighbours and mulch as much garden waste as possible. Alpine Mayor, Cr Jan Vonarx said council regularly receives calls from residents concerned about the amount of smoke being produced because residents are burning-off garden waste.
Alpine rate rise lowest in 15 years
Alpine Shire’s proposed rate rise of 2.9% is the lowest in 15 years and was made possible by a $3.3million saving in recurring expenditure. At last night’s council meeting, the draft 2015 – 2016 budget was approved and is now on exhibition for public comment until 10 June.
