The works include the following improvements:
Service Street: Installation of new kerb and channel on the southern side, from #4 to the existing kerb at the Back Porepunkah Road roundabout (approximately 905m). Additionally, new kerb and channel will be installed on the northern side of Service Street, covering sections from #3-11, #23-25, and #29-35 (approximately 381m).
Stormwater Management: New stormwater pits will be installed along Service Street, connecting to the existing underground stormwater network to enhance drainage.
Martley Street: New kerb and channel will be installed on the eastern side, adjacent to the recently completed footpath, from the existing kerb in front of #4A to the intersection with Pike Street (approximately 104m).
Weather permitting, the works are expected to take up to six weeks. During this period, Service Street will be closed to through traffic on weekdays, with traffic control and detours in place. The street will remain open to local traffic only during these closures.
In conjunction with the kerb works, reconstruction of the Rail Trail between the Rotunda at Bright and the Rail Trail Café in Service Street has also begun.
The works are starting at the Lowen Drive end of Back Porepunkah Road and will involve widening the existing trail to 2.5 metres, followed by resurfacing with new asphalt.
Further updates on the trail widening will be provided as the project progresses.
These infrastructure improvements are funded by the State Government under the Murray to Mountains (M2M) Rail Trail Enhancements Project.
This initiative includes public art, landscaping, and infrastructure upgrades designed to boost cycle tourism.
The M2M project aims to create unique, engaging experiences with world-class installations and improvements.
Council is partnering with two other councils and Tourism North East to deliver this project.
