In this role you will be an integral member of the Corporate Department reporting to the Manager Corporate with two reports.  You will be involved in all aspects of the financial management of the Council.  Key responsibilities will include financial accounting, management and statutory reporting, cashflow management, reconciliations, compliance matters, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll and Taxation.  You will deliver services in compliance with relevant legislation, and in a way which provides best value to Council and contributes to Council’s aim of being a high performing, customer-focused organisation.  

To achieve success you will need to have excellent technical knowledge, strong attention to detail and be adept at solving problems with cost-effective and innovative solutions.

How you'll make a difference

You will lead the Finance team in the delivery of all aspects of financial management of the business.  You will explore and implement initiatives that improve financial outcomes, create efficiencies, and provide excellent customer service.  With your positive and enthusiastic personality, you will bring out the best in your team.

As part of our team you will:

  • Supervise, coach, develop and motivate the finance team to foster a high performing team environment
  • Be responsible for the delivery of accurate regulatory, statutory, and financial reporting such as the annual financial statements and performance reporting
  • Prepare Council’s budget and progress reports in conjunction with the Manager Corporate
  • Oversee banking and treasury functions including monitoring bank balances, term deposits and loans, banking administration, credit cards, cash flow modelling and ensuring timely reconciliation of Council’s bank accounts.
  • Manage all relevant business taxation and employer obligations including GST, FBT, PAYG and superannuation guarantee obligations.

You will also have:  

  • Current Victorian Driver’s Licence
  • Tertiary qualified in Accounting or a related discipline
  • Have at least five years relevant experience
  • CA/CPA qualified (desirable).
