Temporary Closure of 'Jack's Hole' Picnic Area and Section of Cherry Walk

19 March 2018

North East Catchment Management Authority is commencing works today at "Jack's Hole" Picnic Area and a section of Cherry Walk to address major river bank instabilities resulting from the 2016 flood event.

These works will include the placement of large “armour” rock and hardwood logs pinned in place to protect against further erosion.

As a result it will be necessary to close a short section of the Cherry Walk, which will also be reconstructed at a safer distance from the river bank.

Accordingly, there will be significant movement of trucks and heavy machinery in this area. In order to ensure the public’s safety during operations all pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular traffic will be detoured away from the river for a short distance.

In other areas (view map here), traffic management will be in place to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of these works.

It is anticipated that these works will not be completed prior to Easter and as such all operations will cease with the detours removed for the Easter weekend public holiday period. Following the Easter weekend, the detour route and traffic management will be re-instated until work is completed.
