Get Tech Savvy @ Your Library

LIBRARIES across the Alpine Shire are offering older residents the chance to become Tech Savvy with a series of free introductory computer, tablet and smart phone classes.

The Victorian Seniors Card Age Program, in partnership with Telstra, are providing funding and support to more than 40 libraries and other community partners to deliver training to seniors in regional and rural areas of Victoria.

Alpine Shire Library Coordinator Sarah-Jane Harrington said the program is designed to give older people the opportunity to develop skills to use technology for socialising, accessing important services, or conducting personal business.

“These classes are an opportunity for seniors to become familiar with the technology their children and grandchildren are using, while feeling more confident in using it themselves,” she said.

“We are happy to discuss one-on-one sessions as well, if that is what people prefer.”

Topics include “Introduction to Computers” and “Introduction to Smartphones”. For most of the classes the library will supply all the computer equipment necessary but for the class on iPads/tablets and smartphones participants will need to bring their own device.

Each class will run for approximately two hours and will offered on Mondays and Tuesday days.
