Mount Beauty Skate Event entertains 150

SOME 150 skate, BMX and scoot enthusiasts tested their mettle at the annual Mount Beauty Skate Competition on the weekend.

Alpine Shire Council Youth Development Officer Jenny Corser said the event was a success, with live music, barbecue and prizes keeping the crowd fed and entertained.

“These skate competitions are always lots of fun,” she said.

“We hold three competitions across the Alpine Shire each year as part of the broader 11-part region wide series.

“They’re a great opportunity for young people who love skating, scooting and BMX riding to test themselves out against their peers and enjoy some live music in a safe environment.

“Myrtleford’s competition was held in March, now we’re looking forward to holding Bright’s competition on October 1.”

The Mount Beauty Skate Park Committee ran a barbecue to raise funds for proposed upgrades to the skate park.

The next competition in the series will be held at Tangambalanga on July 3, followed by Rutherglen on September 3 and Bright on October 1. Visit North East Skate Series on Facebook for more information.

The 11-part skate series is a partnership between Alpine, Indigo and Corowa Shire Councils and Rural City of Wangaratta.
