Council Events Funding Program Open

CALLING all event organisers – the annual Alpine Shire Council Events Funding Program is now open.

The annual program provides in-kind assistance and financial sponsorship to events across the Alpine Shire.

Council’s Director Sustainable Development Heather Green said with more than 90 events held across the shire each year, it was important for organisers to apply.

“We are very lucky to have a vibrant event culture and dedicated organisers who do a fantastic job,” she said.

“In 2015-16 more than 60 events were supported by the Event Funding Program.

“It’s essential that organisers apply for this funding so we can account for sponsorship and logistical support and reduce the costs for event organisers. It also helps us plan for new events to avoid conflict with existing events.

“If you haven’t applied, it’s harder for us to offer that support, and the cost for logistical support from Council staff may be charged back to the event.”

Events in the Alpine Shire attracted over 100,000 visitors to the area in 2015-16. They are integral to the economy of the shire and support the exceptional services that we have in our towns, when many towns of similar size don’t normally have such services.

“Funding is available to support any event being held in the Alpine Shire during the 2016-17 financial year that aims to benefit the Alpine Shire community and/or attract visitors to the area.” Ms Green said.

“Event organisers can apply for sponsorship (cash), logistical support (in-kind) or both.

“Logistical support can include the cost of Council services such as traffic management, permits and additional open spaces maintenance, and use of resources such as crowd control barriers, waste management, and some hire fees for Council-managed facilities.”

Applications are open now until Friday, 1 July. The application form is available here.
