Make the most of Community Grants – now open

YOUNG people with a great idea for a project to benefit their community can apply for an Alpine Shire Council Community Grant.

The annual grants program is worth $80,000, and has this year introduced a Youth Projects category, open to residents aged 12 – 25.

Council’s Director Sustainable Development Heather Green said that this is the first time the grants have specifically promoted youth projects.

“We hope this will encourage young people to look at community needs with fresh eyes and provide different projects that need some help in getting off the ground,” she said.

“Over the years the grants program had helped hundreds of groups to carry out projects and buy equipment to benefit their communities.

“These grants are a fantastic way for community groups to receive extra financial help for a project, event or equipment.

“It’s also a really great way for Council to give back to community groups and contribute to their growth and sustainability.

“Over the years these grants have helped groups buy everything from a new roof to barbecue trailers, to hold events and complete projects that benefit their community.

“This year we’re excited to introduce a Youth Projects category to support young people to carry out their own project for local youth and the wider community.”

The Alpine Shire Community Grants 2016/17 are now open and run until Friday, 8 July.
