Council increases Community Immunisation Services

Alpine Shire Council is now offering free monthly immunisation sessions in Bright, Myrtleford and Mount Beauty.

Council’s Alpine@Home Manager Craig Cross said the increased number of sessions would make it easier for parents to get their children immunised.

“We’ve effectively doubled our immunisation sessions in all three towns across the Alpine Shire,” he said.

“We currently have a very high rate of immunisation but we would like to get closer to 100% of children immunised. The change to our service times will make this more convenient for families.

“We want to make it as simple as possible for parents to get their children immunised and keep their children’s immunisations up-to-date. Increasing the number of sessions from six to 12 per year, and having them on the same day and time each month is one way that we hope to do that.

“We also work in conjunction with schools in the area to provide an immunisation service to year seven students.”

Immunisation sessions will be held at the Myrtleford Senior Citizens Centre, Myrtleford, the Bright Hospital’s Community Health Centre, Bright, and the Lakeside Community Centre, Mount Beauty.

“All of our monthly community sessions run from 9.30am – 10.30am, so parents can just come along with their Medicare Card and child health record during those times,” he said.

“Our qualified Nurse Immunisers administer the vaccinations and the service is completely free.”
