Volunteer Grant applications now open

Up to $5,000 available to volunteer organisations

Local volunteer organisations are being encouraged to apply for the latest round of Volunteer Grants.

Alpine Shire Council Community Development Officer Jan Mock said Volunteer Grants are a great way for community organisations to get some much-needed extra funds.

“Community groups and organisations that rely on volunteers are eligible to apply for the Australian Government’s Volunteer
Grants through an open process under the Strengthening Communities – Volunteering sub-activity,” she said.

“Grants of up to $5,000 are available and it’s a great way for these volunteer organisations and groups to get a financial boost.

“The funds can be used to purchase small equipment items to assist their volunteers, assist with the reimbursement of fuel costs incurred by volunteers and transport costs for volunteers with a disability who are unable to drive, and contribute towards the cost of training courses and background screening checks for volunteers.”

Ms Mock said applications close on December 9, and volunteer organisations that are successful in obtaining grant would be paid by 30 June 2016.
