Household Chemical Collection Survey

Have your say on the Household Chemical Collection Program

Alpine Shire Council is encouraging residents to have their say regarding the Household Chemical Collection Program.

Sustainability Victoria is currently conducting a review of Victoria’s Household Chemical Collection Program including both Detox your Home mobile collection services and permanent drop-off sites.

Council’s Waste Management Officer Sandra Light said Alpine Shire residents’ feedback was extremely important.

“Now that the new delivery model has been running for over 12 months, Sustainability Victoria is conducting a review of the new program to establish its efficiency and effectiveness and this is the perfect opportunity for Alpine Shire community members to voice their views,” Ms Light said.

“Sustainability Victoria wants to provide the best possible service to all Victorians to dispose of their unwanted household chemicals including paint, appliance batteries and compact fluorescent lamps and fluorescent tubes safely and at no cost, whilst helping the environment by being diverted from landfill.”

Ms Light said while Council supports Sustainability Victoria’s new model, Council believes that the distance to these sites are too far and offer no direct benefit to Alpine Shire residents.

“Alpine Shire Council needs to provide evidence that our community has a high demand for this service to be local,” she said.

“One of the review items will be looking at the accessibility of the program and if residents complete the Sustainability Victoria survey by October 19, it will greatly assist Sustainability Victoria by providing feedback that proves how much we want and need this highly valued service to be located locally.”

Closing date for submissions is Monday, October 19, 2015.
