Alpine Mayor appointed to Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel

7 April 2015

Alpine Shire Mayor, Cr Jan Vonarx has been appointed as one of only four rural representatives to the Victorian government’s Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel.

Alpine CEO, Dave Barry said the appointment is significant in ensuring that smaller councils have their voice heard by the government, as it seeks direct input on a range of topics.

“We congratulate Cr Vonarx on this appointment. There was a lot of competition for the positions. We are really pleased that the Mayor of Alpine Shire has been selected as we are one of the smaller councils in the state,” Mr Barry said.

Cr Vonarx has served as an Alpine Shire councillor since 2005 and is also the north east region’s representative on the Rural Councils Victoria executive committee, where she has served since 2008.

“I’m very happy to get a seat at the table and to represent the views of rural communities. I see my appointment as not only being a voice for rural councils but also for others in the north east region. I invite north east Mayors to get in touch if they have any points I can raise on their behalf,” Cr Vonarx said.

Also on the Advisory Panel are Robert Doyle, Lord Mayor of Melbourne and a further 10 Mayors from across the state.

The first Advisory Panel meeting will be held on Wednesday, 22 April.
