Autumn leaf fall clearing starts next week

26 March 2015

Alpine Shire Council will start its annual autumn leaf fall clearing in the three main towns’ CBDs next week and will cover more areas over the coming weeks.

Council’s Director Assets, Charlie Bird said the street sweeper truck being used for the process will work on a cyclical basis, rotating around Bright, Myrtleford, Mount Beauty and some of the smaller townships.

“In addition, our crews will still be collecting leaves with their smaller units,” Mr Bird said.

“Clearing leaves provides a safer surface on roads and footpaths and maintains the amenity of parks and open spaces,” he said.

Council’s leaf fall clearing operation is not a service to assist residents with the removal of private leaf fall.

“Residents are requested not to pile leaves from nature-strips into gutters or on roadsides as this causes problems for the drainage network,” he said.

“Residents will need to deal with their own leaf fall using methods such as mowing, mulching and composting. Leaves can also to be taken to transfer stations, landfill and green waste collection areas.
