High Country Library services review underway

THE High Country Library Corporation (HCLC) is undergoing a review of its operations and services to ensure its future sustainability, and community members are invited to share their views.

The Corporation delivers library services across four municipalities – Alpine and Mansfield Shire Councils and the Rural Cities of Benalla and Wangaratta.

HCLC Board Chair Jan Vonarx said the purpose of the review, which is being undertaken by Consulting and Implementation Services Group (CIS), is to identify ways to make the service more sustainable into the future.

“The goal is to look at the way the service is running and identify how we can do things more sustainably and efficiently,” she said.

“Like all library services, HCLC is being challenged with reducing income streams, which makes it essential that we use our resources effectively to provide the best possible service.

“This review is a vital part of identifying how we can do that.”

CIS will consult with a range of stakeholders, including board members, member Councils, HCLC staff and volunteers and ‘Friends of the Library’ groups.

Community members and other interested parties are also invited to make a submission on a range of service elements, including:

• Core and non-core business;
• Systems, technology and automation;
• Governing legislation and policies;
• Fees and charges;
• Library opening hours;
• Funding sources and possible partners.

“We need comment from our library users to ensure we continue to provide them with a service that meets their needs and exceeds their expectations,” Cr Vonarx said.

“Libraries are essential parts of our communities, where people of all ages, from babies to great-grandparents, can find something to spark their imaginations and share their love of reading.

“We want to make sure that your local library continues to be accessible, welcoming and provides the service that you need.”

For more information on how to lodge a submission is available here or contact Alpine Shire Council Director Corporate and Community Trevor Britten on (03) 5755 0555.

Submissions must be received no later than Friday, 27 March 2015.
