Great Victorian Bike Ride 2014

A letter from Bicycle Network, event organisers of the Great Victorian Bike Ride 2014, which will be passing through the Alpine Shire on 1 and 2 December.

Re: RACV Great Victorian Bike Ride 2014– Albury to Lilydale

As a major road user group, this letter contains some important information regarding the RACV Great Victorian Bike Ride 2014, which will travel through your area in November/December this year.

Dates: Sunday 29 November to Sunday 7 December 2014
No. of participants: 4000 (approx.)
Start Site: Albury (Hovell Tree Park)
Overnight stays: Yackandandah, Bright, Moyhu, Mansfield, Alexandra and Healesville.
Finish Site: Lilydale(Melba Park)

During the event period, there will be a large number of cyclists on the roads each day as detailed in the attached schedule. Generally, riders can be expected on the roads from 6.30am until late afternoon.

As such, please consider alternate routes on the days that your operations may be affected. However, if you must travel in areas where there are a large number of cyclists on the road, Bicycle Network asks that you remember to:
- Obey all road rules and follow traffic controller instructions (where applicable)
- Allow for plenty of clearance when overtaking cyclists
- Be aware of oncoming traffic when overtaking cyclists
- Allow ample travel time as on average cyclists will ride between 20-35 km/h

In planning the event, we work hard to consider and support all road users, and any changed traffic conditions are implement in consultation with local councils, Victoria Police and VicRoads.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
