Youth Council representing their peers

14 August, 2014

THE Alpine Shire Youth Council meets monthly to discuss events, initiatives and ways to represent the young people of the Alpine Shire.

Planning for the Alpine Shire Youth Awards is underway, and nominations are now open.

Youth Council Mayor Angus Goodman said the awards will be held in Myrtleford on Friday, 10 October this year.

“The Youth Awards are a great way to recognise the achievements of young people from across the Alpine Shire,” he said.

“We’re really passionate about celebrating what local youth are doing and giving them a night that is all about them.”

Youth Council is committed to representing local young people and engaging with their communities to ensure the youth voice is heard.

Preparations for the Bright & Loud Skate and Music Festival on Saturday, 4 October are also gearing up.

Angus said the event will showcase local and national musicians and give young people a youth-focussed event to enjoy.

“Bright & Loud is festival organised for young people by young people,” he said.

“We’re in the process of finding a really brilliant headliner, who will be supported by fantastic local young bands and performers.

“The North East Skate Series Bright heat will run at the same time on-site.”
