Harrietville – Bright Shared Trail update

17 July, 2014

PROGRESS on the Harrietville – Bright Shared Trail Project has slowed until the weather improves, but construction on the Bright to Germantown section has begun.

Council’s Director Infrastructure Services Ian Ellett said construction and sealing of the trail from the Harrietville end has been completed up to Howards Bridge, apart from some topsoiling and reinstatement adjacent to the path.

“Further sealing work of the constructed section out of town has been delayed and is now dependent on improved weather conditions,” he said.

“The section of trail beyond Howards Bridge has been cleared and prepared, with new fencing completed. Further construction here is also dependent on drier conditions.

“The section from the Ovens River to the Trout Farm has been constructed and is also waiting on drier conditions before sealing.

“As the continuation of all trail works at Harrietville is now reliant on improved conditions, further significant progress is not likely before spring.”

Tenders for the river and creek bridges have closed and are currently being evaluated. The bridge contract will be considered at Council’s August Meeting, with on-site works anticipated to commence around October.

Mr Ellett said construction at the Bright end of the trail has seen the installation of the required culvert extensions, between Racecourse Rd and Tawonga Gap Rd.

“New trail construction on the north side of Delaney Ave between Racecourse Rd and Tyntynder Lane began last week,” he said.

“The renewal of the existing trail between Churchill Ave and Cherry Lane is also underway.”
