Mount Beauty Skate Event a success

28 April 2014

MORE than 100 young people and their families turned out to share their skate, scoot and BMX skills, have a go at street-style art and enjoy great live music at the Mount Beauty Skate Event on Saturday.

The annual event attracted skilled competitors across range of age groups and, for the first time, added a street arts workshop to its line-up.

Alpine Shire Youth Development Officer Ebony Buckley said the event was fantastic.

“We had a great crowd and awesome live music from The Thieves, Slaughtermelon and Mud Puppy,” she said.

“This was the second of eight skate events held across Indigo and Alpine Shires every year as part of the North East Skate Park Series.

“We held this event at the same time as the Mount Beauty Music Festival, which gave the whole day a great atmosphere and added another attraction to the Festival’s line-up.

“The FReeZA Committees and young volunteers from Indigo and Alpine did a fantastic job of organising and running the day, including MC-ing and judging the skate, scoot and BMX comps and running the barbecue and arts workshop.”

Anyone aged between 12 – 24 who wants to get involved with holding events is welcome to join the Alpine FReeZA Committee.
