Get your walking shoes on with new guide

21 March 2014

A NEW Walks and Trails Guide is now available to help residents and visitors alike make the most of the great outdoors.

Alpine Shire Council Mayor Peter Roper said the guide provides up-to-date information on the location, length, skill level and background of each walk.

“We pride ourselves on being a destination that offers the best natural experiences to our visitors,” he said.

“This guide is a valuable resource for locals and visitors to experience the many stunning walks on offer across the Alpine Shire and neighbouring National Parks.”

The guide covers walks in Bright, Porepunkah, Wandiligong, Harrietville, Mount Beauty, Tawonga, Myrtleford, Bogong Village, Dinner Plain, Mount Buffalo National Park and Alpine National Park.

Mr Roper said the guide showcased the Bright and Surrounds tourism tagline “A life lived outside” and appealed to walkers of all abilities and ages.

“We have walks to suit everyone, from young families to the ultra-fit and everyone in between,” he said.

“There is no better way to experience the natural beauty of this region than on foot, enjoying fresh Alpine air and pristine landscapes.”

Council worked with Parks Victoria and stakeholders from each destination to develop the finished product.

The guide is available online at or in hardcopy from Visitor Information Centres across the Alpine Shire.
