Skyrunners take on Mt Buffalo next month

ONE of the most challenging trail races in the country will debut on the trails of Mount Buffalo next month, with the first ever Buffalo Stampede on April 5 - 6.

The event includes a SkyMarathon (41.4km) and Ultra SkyMarathon (75km) through the pristine high altitude landscape of Mount Buffalo National Park.

Alpine Shire Council Mayor Peter Roper said the Buffalo Stampede added another aspect to the Alpine Shire’s reputation as a hub for nature-based tourism.

“We are building a strong position as a premier destination for events that make the most of the great outdoors and showcase our pristine natural environment,” he said.

“This is the first Australian event to fulfil the requirements of the Skyrunning brand, which is a powerful step towards cementing the Alpine Shire and surrounds as the place to go for high altitude training and events.”

Buffalo Stampede is expected to attracting a large field of national and international competitors.

Late entries are available until March 21, with the Ultra SkyMarathon taking place on Saturday, 5 April and the SkyMarathon on Sunday, 6 April.
