Harrietville – Bright Shared Trail Community Meeting

10 February 2014

COMMUNITY members are invited to join Alpine Shire Council staff in walking the proposed routes under consideration for the section of the Harrietville – Bright Shared Trail between Howards Bridge and Frosty Corner on Thursday, 13 February.

A meeting at the Harrietville Hotel Motel will follow.

Alpine Shire Council Director Infrastructure Services Ian Ellett said recent confirmation on land availability meant some proposed alignment options could no longer be considered.

“Land availability, along with environmental requirements, likely construction costs and maintenance issues rule out a number of the options,” he said.

“Only two options remain viable for Council to consider.

“Neither follow the eastern side of the river, both cross the Ovens River at Howards Bridge and follow the Great Alpine Road for a short distance, then follow different routes to Frosty Corner.

“We understand that this project has been a priority for the community for quite some time, and it will be very exciting to see it underway.

“This meeting is a way for us to talk through the assessment and evaluation process for the various alignment options that have been investigated, and answer any questions.”

From 4.30pm – 5.45pm interested community members are invited to assemble at Howards Bridge to walk the alignment options under consideration.

At 6pm the meeting will reconvene at the Harrietville Hotel Motel where a presentation will be made outlining the project options in more detail.

Residents are invited to attend both or either of these meetings, depending on their availability and interest.

A report will be prepared for the Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday, 4 March for Council to make a decision on the alignment of this section of the trail.
