2014 North East Skate Series kicks off in March

MYRTLEFORD will host the first heat of the North East Skate Series, attracting young skaters, BMX and scooter riders from across the region on March 8.

The eight-part series for 12 – 25-year-olds has been growing in popularity and size since it began in 2012.

Competitions take place in Mount Beauty, Myrtleford and Bright with five additional events in the Indigo Shire.

Alpine Shire Youth Development Officer Lili Korndorffer said the event was going from strength to strength.

“This event is a fantastic collaboration between Indigo and Alpine shires, and is delivered by a team of young people who do everything from PA set up to pro riding to MCing,” she said.

“This year we have decided to run it in conjunction with the Myrtleford Festival to widen the audience and give festival-goers an awesome experience that is unique to this area.

“It also incorporates the Alpine Battle of the Bands so there will be some brilliant live music too.”

The Myrtleford Skate Event will be held at the Cundy Park Skate Park, Myrtleford, from 5pm – 9pm on Saturday, 8 March.

Entry is free and includes live performances from local musicians, skate and BMX pro rider demos and Alpine Battle of the Bands. Barbecue food and drinks will be available for purchase.
