Bright Rod Run to continue with Council and community support

ON Saturday, 15 September Council officers and community members met with members of the Northern Suburbs Street Rods to finalise plans for the 2012 Bright Rod Run.

The future of the soon to be 22 year old event was discussed, and the Northern Suburbs Street Rods indicated that from 2013 onwards they would require more local support to stage the event.

Council will be working with the community to ensure the event occurs beyond 2012.

Alpine Shire Council’s Manager Economic Development Clayton Neil said the Northern Suburbs Street Rods (NSSR) will be involved in assisting the community to run the 2013 event.

“The Bright Rod Run contributes significantly to the economic wellbeing of the Alpine Shire. We are enthused that NSSR will continue to play a critical role in the future of the Bright Rod Run,” he said.

“Entrants have reduced over time, while spectators have increased. The event needs to be financially sustainable, and must deliver value to both entrants and spectators.

“It is very concerning, however, that a recent press release states that this will be the last event – we are determined to ensure the Bright Rod Run continues into the future.”

Alpine Shire Council will facilitate a community meeting on Wednesday, 10 October 2012 at 10am in the Bright Council Chambers to discuss the future of the event.

An outcome of the meeting will be the establishment of a local based organising committee.
