Local events benefit from funding

MORE than 30 local events have received a funding boost as part of Council’s Tourism Festival and Event Funding Program.

Council’s Manager Economic Development Clayton Neil said that the Shire’s festivals and events attract an estimated 65,000 visitors to the region each year.

“Our events have an extremely important run-on effect for local businesses, contributing to the health of the local economy and providing cultural enrichment,” he said.

“It’s Council’s responsibility to assist event organisers by providing guidance, ongoing logistics support and, where possible, sponsorship.”

Council received 35 applications for funding, with 33 of these successful in receiving financial and/or logistical support.

Successful events include:

• La Fiera Myrtleford - Myrtleford Chamber of Commerce - $2000 in sponsorship and $1,560 logistics;
• Gravity 12 Hour Mountain Bike Enduro - Finish Line Events - $3000 in sponsorship and up to $200 logistics;
• Bright Rod Run – Northern Suburbs Street Rods Inc. - $2000 for sponsorship and up to $13,468 logistics;
• Dederang Races – Dederang Race Club Inc. - $1000 sponsorship and up to $600 logistics;
• Myrtleford Golden Spurs Rodeo – Myrtleford Golden Spurs Rodeo Inc. - $1000 sponsorship and up to $1000 logistics; and
