Bright Sports Centre due for reopening in November

THE Bright Sports Centre pool is set to be reopened at the start of November, with works to the pool hall roof, plant, ventilation and cooling system approaching completion in the coming months.

Council’s Manager Project Delivery John Carter said after some delays at the beginning of construction, the project was travelling well and would result in an attractive, welcoming space for pool users.

“The works involve refurbishment of the pool hall including new pool linings and concourse, north facing rear windows to deck area, new ventilation and cooling system, new pool plant and pool heating system and improved access to the facility,” he said.

“Works are progressing well since the tubular truss roof frame and roof was installed a few weeks ago.

“The new space will be airy and filled with natural light, a much more attractive space than previously, with a new rear deck that will be available for the public to book for special events such as birthday parties.”

The $800,000 project forms Stage 1 of a revamp of the centre, which is moving from strength to strength since Council took it over in 2009.

The facility has been reinvigorated with new equipment, regular class activity schedule and services such as massage and personal training.

A number of classes will be held once the pool reopens, including new aqua aerobics classes and two-week Holiday Intensive Learn to Swim Programs in December and January.

The Term 1 Learn to Swim Program will commence in February 2013.
