Council hosts heritage presentation in May

THE past will come under the spotlight in May when Alpine Shire Council hosts “Living with the Past, not in the Past” by heritage adviser Ivar Nelsen.

The presentation is part of the National Trust’s 2012 Heritage Festival, which has the theme of “Innovation + Invention”.

Mr Nelsen said the presentation will showcase exciting examples of innovation and creativity at historic sites and buildings in Australia and overseas.

“Architects and conservationists are increasingly turning to new uses and adaptation to give our heritage buildings a sustainable future,” he said.

“Heritage can be celebrated as an active part of an exciting future and not just a static remnant of the past.

“Come along and be inspired by the new face of conservation in our new millennium.”

Mr Nelsen is the Heritage Advisor for Alpine Shire.

During his 37 years in the heritage field, he has seen the conservation movement change substantially.

“Heritage isn’t just about restrictions today, but it’s about opportunities too,” he said.

The presentation will start at 7.30pm on Thursday, May 3, at Council Chambers, Churchill Avenue, Bright and is free of charge.

Anyone wishing to book can contact Council on 5755 0555 to reserve a seat.
