Time to visit your local library

THIS year is the National Year of Reading, and Alpine Shire Council is partnering with other Councils across the state to encourage more people to visit their local library.

The Alpine Shire has libraries in Myrtleford, Bright and Mount Beauty, which already enjoy a strong following among residents.

Councillor Jan Vonarx said new visitors to the library will be surprised and delighted by what’s on offer.

“If the last time you visited a library was 20 years ago, or if you’ve never been inside one, I’d urge you to go and take a look,” she said.

“You’ll find a warm welcome and plenty to see and do.”

Cr Vonarx said libraries offered a low-cost alternative to purchasing books, free internet and activities for every member of the family.

“There is no better time to visit your library,” she said.

“Costs are rising for many households, but your libraries are offering more resources, programs, events and social activities than ever before.

“Even regular library users may not be seeing everything our libraries have to offer – they may use them for borrowing books or accessing the Internet, but our libraries also hold Storytimes for children, school holiday activities, have DVDs and visiting authors.”
