Myrtleford among "Villages of Victoria" campaign.

MYRTLEFORD’S unique culture and picturesque surrounds will see it become part of the State Government’s “Villages of Victoria” tourism campaign.

Myrtleford will be added as part of the expansion of the successful marketing campaign, along with more than a dozen new towns and villages across Victoria.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events Louise Asher said the expansion has been funded by $1.5 million in State Government funding.

“This funding will support a comprehensive co-operative marketing campaign to promote visitation to regional Victoria, which we know has a significant impact for local economies," she said.

Alpine Shire Council’s Manager Economic Development Clayton Neil welcomed the announcement.

“This is great recognition that the tourism offer of Myrtleford is constantly improving,” he said.

“The clear message for Myrtleford is around culinary adventure and is a credit to the tourism operators.”

Myrtleford joins Bright, Beechworth, Yackandandah and Rutherglen in the list of campaign villages from the North East Victorian region.

The announcement follows the recent recognition of the Myrtleford Alpine Ambassadors, who took home the Excellence in Volunteer Services award at the RACV Victorian Tourism Awards.
