More skills for museum volunteers

MEMBERS of the Alpine Shire Heritage Network (ASHN) continued to hone their skills at a recent workshop on artefact exhibition and collection digitisation.

ASHN is made up of representatives from the Shire’s museums and Historical Societies and aims to help develop the skills of volunteers and promote sustainability in their organisations.

The workshop was held at the Council Chambers, Bright, on Wednesday, 9 November and covered Interpretation and Exhibition and Digitising Collections with Museum Consultant, Euan McGillivray.

Council’s Director Corporate and Community Trevor Britten said the workshops allowed volunteers to gain the skills to preserve their collections for the future.

“We have fantastic volunteers keeping our history alive and this way we can help them become even more skilled,” he said.

“Helping our museums become sustainable means ensuring that valuable knowledge is accessible for future generations.”
