Alpine Shire Australia Day Community Awards 2012 nominations open

AUSTRALIA Day provides the opportunity for communities to recognise hard working and inspirational residents.

Council is now seeking nominations from residents for the Alpine Shire Australia Day Community Awards to be presented on Australia Day 2012.

Categories for the awards in 2012 are:
• Local Achiever of the Year
• Local Young Achiever of the Year
• Community Event of the Year
• Community Organisation of the Year

Local Achiever and Young Achiever of the Year will be awarded in Bright and District, Myrtleford and District and Kiewa Valley.

From these winners, an overall Alpine Shire Citizen of the Year will be selected.

Bright resident Alanah Tesoriero was awarded the 2011 Bright and District Young Achiever and Alpine Shire Citizen of the year.

The Kiewa Valley Young Achievers of the Year were Lachlan Ranton and Jack Simpson, while the Kiewa Valley Achiever of the Year was Colin McLean.

The Bright and District Achiever of the Year for 2011 was Dr Paul Duff and the Community Event of the Year was the Community Bowls program at Bright Bowls Club.

For Myrtleford and District, Basil Kneebone was the Achiever of the Year and Angus Goodman was named Young Achiever of the Year.

Nominations must be submitted on the appropriate form and received by 5pm Wednesday, 7 December 2011.
