Nominations open for Australia Day awards

Mayor Cr Nino Mautone is calling on Alpine Shire residents to nominate the most community-minded people they know for recognition in January’s Australia Day Awards.

Residents have until Thursday, 16 December to nominate an Alpine Shire resident, community group or event for an award.

“Council appreciates the contributions so many people make to our community and this is one way Council and the community can recognise their dedication and say thanks,” Cr Mautone said.

“This year’s award categories will recognise Local Achievers and Young Achievers in the Kiewa Valley and in the Upper and Lower Ovens Valleys.

“One of the six category winners will then be chosen as the overall Alpine Shire Citizen of the Year.”

Anyone can make a nomination in any of these categories on forms available from Council's main office in Bright, its Customer Service Centres in Myrtleford, Mount Beauty and Dinner Plain, or on Council’s website

The awards will be presented at Australia Day celebrations on 26 January, 2010.
