New hall of fame inductee highlights Alpine tourism success

Mayor Cr Nino Mautone has praised the successful Alpine Shire businesses at the RACV Victorian Tourism Awards last night (Monday, 15 November), including the Ovens Valley Motor Inn which was inducted into the Victorian Tourism Awards Hall of Fame.

Bright businesses the Ovens Valley Motor Inn, Abalina Cottages and the Bright Brewery as well as Tawonga’s Bogong Horseback Adventures were all recognised at the gala ceremony held at Crown Casino.

The successful Alpine Shire businesses were

  • Ovens Valley Motor Inn - Winner: Standard Accommodation
  • Bogong Horseback Adventures - Finalist: Parks Victoria award for Eco-Tourism
  • Bogong Horseback Adventures – Merit: Parks Victoria Award for Adventure Tourism
  • Bright Brewery – Merit: Crown award for Tourism, Wineries, Distilleries and Boutique Breweries
  • Abalina Cottages - Winner: RACV People’s Choice for Guest Satisfaction

“This is an outstanding achievement for these individual businesses, as well as the Alpine Shire tourism industry,” Cr Mautone said.

“These awards are great recognition of the strength of the tourism product shire wide.

“For the last three years the award for standard accommodation has been won by the Ovens Valley Motor Inn.

"I applaud operators Shannon and Simeon Crawley for their continued success.

"Their hard work over a number of years has resulted in a much deserved induction in to the hall of fame, something worthy of widespread recognition.

“It is also a great achievement for the Bogong Horseback Adventures to be successful in two categories while the Bright Brewery and Abalina Cottages continue to improve and are highly deserving of success.

"It must be a big thrill for Lesley Hawkins and Ian McIntyre from the Abalina Cottages who were successful in one of two awards for guest satisfaction.

“I also congratulate the Svarmisk Resort and Spa in Mount Beauty and Alpine Visitor Information Centre which were entered in the awards.

"Council’s three Visitor Information Centres will be boosted with the expected release of the Alpine Explorer prior to Christmas.

"This will have an enormous benefit to the Alpine Shire tourism industry.

"The 2010 RACV Victorian Tourism Awards have been our most successful and it is clear that the Alpine Shire tourism industry is continuing to improve.
