Council hopeful of receiving funding for Bright Sports Centre

Council is hopeful of receiving good news regarding a $400,000 funding application for further improvements to the Bright Sports Centre swimming pool, according to Manager Community Services Trevor Britten.

If successful, the funding will allow stage one of the re-development of the Bright Sports Centre to go ahead.

Proposed works for stage one include:

  • Improving access to the facility
  • Installing new water saving and energy efficient facilities
  • Replacing the pool hall roof, extending the pool concourse and installing a new ventilation system and
  • Upgrading the disabled toilet facilities

“Council is committed to continually improving the Bright Sports Centre,” Mr Britten said.

“A facility Master Plan has been developed which identified that stage one improvements to the pool area were the highest priority.

“If successful, this funding application will allow Council to begin the re-development that will ensure the longevity of the swimming pool.

“The upgrade will improve access and operations while creating extra aquatic opportunities.

"Council believes the swimming pool is vital to the centre’s existence as it caters for all age groups all year round.

“Council has received positive feedback from the community since taking ownership of the Bright Sports Centre.

“Many improvements have already been made including new equipment, more activities, increased opening hours and the creation of a multi-purpose area at the rear of the building.

“With a number of new tenants now based at the Centre, together with increased community activities, the facility has been transformed into a vibrant hub for health, fitness and wellbeing.”
