State Government support for Bright rail trail extension

The Victorian State Government has confirmed a commitment of $120,000 for the extension of the Rail Trail into the Bright commercial area via Burke Street.

Combined with Councils commitment of $40,000 the project has a total budget of $160,000.

“The extension of the Rail Trail into Bright has been a long term goal of the community and Council and was originally identified as a high priority in the Bright futures Masterplan, 2001” said John Carter, Manager of Strategic Services.

“The project will deliver a range of benefits including supporting cycle tourism, improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists and provide the township with a sense of progression”

In addition to the extension of the Rail Trail the project will also deliver a cycling node in the Bakers Gully precinct including trail and township information, seating, water fountain and cycle racks.

It is also proposed to install artistic direction indicators at key points commencing with the trail intersection in Railway Avenue.

The project is being supported by the Victorian State Government through the sustainable Small towns Development Fund which aims to help smaller towns create jobs, drive economic growth and improve community infrastructure.

It is anticipated that works will commence early in the New Year following finalisation of design.
